Increase in precept charge for 2019-20

Summary: | A note regarding the increase in the precept for the forthcoming year, 2019-20. |
The garden committee agreed at the AGM on 9th January 2019 to substantially increase the precept in order to provide sufficient funds to the committee to pay legal fees to defend an action brought against the garden by the new owners of the ground and lower ground floor flat of 9WG. They are hoping to remove some of Wetherby Gardens from the ownership of the residents for their own gain.
The case has been brought by the new owners; the garden committee (via the trustees and the sub-committee) is forced to defend the claim. The owners are the only ones who can stop the legal process, the committee is not able to do this.
Since the start of this process the committee has sought to find a negotiated settlement, but so far this has not been successful, though we are still working towards this outcome.
We are naturally hoping that the increase in the precept will apply to this year alone, but this will depend on how the case develops.
